Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) announced six more dengue deaths on 19 November, Saturday morning, bringing the total number of deaths from dengue this year to 226. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 559 people with the viral fever were admitted to hospitals over the 24-hour (18-19 November) period. Dengue Death toll rises to 213. It is the highest since 2019. Among all districts, Dhaka ranks top in terms of fatalities and cases. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Mirpur, Uttara, Mugda, Jatrabari, Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur areas are the dengue hotspots. Till Tuesday, Bangladesh registered about 50,000 hospitalisations from dengue fever this year. Meanwhile, eight deaths were confirmed in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning. According to DGHS data, at least 692 new dengue patients were hospitalized across the country in the 24 hours till yesterday morning, taking the total tally to 49,992 cases this year. Over 65% of the total number of cases were reported from Dhaka alone, with 32,535 cases. In the first 15 days of November, Bangladesh registered 11,968 hospitalizations. Currently, 2,851 people are receiving treatment at various hospitals, including 1,638 in Dhaka. Of the 213 deaths recorded this year, one was confirmed in June, nine in July, and 11 in August. Dengue began to cause more casualties in September, with 34 deaths, while 86 died in October and 72 in November.

This year’s fatalities from dengue climbed to 205. During this period, 760 patients were hospitalized with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Among the latest deaths, one each was reported from Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna taking the death tolls in these three divisions to 122, 52 and 11 respectively. Meanwhile death toll remained unchanged at nine in Barisal, six in Rajshahi, and five in Mymensingh divisions. Of the new patients, 425 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 335 outside it, according to DGHS. A total of 2,989 dengue patients, including 1,767 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country. The directorate has recorded 49,300 dengue cases and 46,106 recoveries so far this year. This year’s fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease reached 182 on Tuesday, exceeding all previous records in Bangladesh. Earlier, the country recorded the highest 179 deaths from dengue in a year in 2019.
